Counties and cities, along with locally owned infrastructure (utilities, K-12 schools, law enforcement, emergency management, PSAPs, etc.) are eligible to apply for $5.4 million in SLCGP funds to help support a variety of cybersecurity projects. Eighty percent of funds are allocated for local governments or locally owned infrastructure and 20 percent of funds are allocated for state projects.
The grant has a 48-month period of performance and requires a 30 percent match, although the match may be waived due to financial hardship.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to:
- Drafting policies, procedures, and cyber incident response plans
- Hiring an IT or cybersecurity employee (both in-house and 3rd party contractors)
- Conducting internal and/or external cybersecurity vulnerability assessments
- Replacing legacy equipment, and other equipment/software that poses a cybersecurity risk to your organization.
- Implementing cybersecurity best practices such as:
- Purchasing backups (cloud, offline, or on premises)
- Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
- Social engineering awareness and prevention training for employees
