The Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) and The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) have partnered with The Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) to develop two eight-hour Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) certified emergency driving classes. These classes satisfy requirements for HB 298 (Jill’s Law), which requires all law enforcement in Kentucky to complete at least four hours of emergency driving training every two years.  

Two classes, sponsored by KACo and KLC, are in-person training opportunities, while a third option offered by DOCJT is available as an online training course. Please contact DOJCT for more information about its Online Vehicle Operations Course.

Additional information about the in-person KACo/KLC classes is below, including dates and locations. Classes are free, but space is limited. Lunch will be provided.

HB298 Vehicle Operation: Reducing Operational Risk

This class address the mandatory requirements for Kentucky law enforcement agencies and officers regarding emergency and pursuit driving. Course instructors will address agency policy, emergency and pursuit operations, legal aspects and case law, and the decision-making process for the individual officer in emergency vehicle operations. Participants also will participate in driving courses for 3.5 hours at the conclusion of the presentation. The course will conclude with a written test. This class is KLEC certified for eight hours of in-service credit.

NOTE: If you have attended this class in the last three years you will not receive credit for in-service. However, this course will meet your requirements for House Bill 298 (Jill’s Law).

HB 298 Emergency/Pursuit Driving: Decision-Making for Life
