The Census Connection: How Address Accuracy Impacts County Funding

Date: September 29, 2026
Time: 2:00 PM-3:00 PM Eastern
Location: Virtual
Cost: Free

In 2027, counties will have the opportunity to impact how much federal funding they get through 2040 for crucial programs that support economic development, infrastructure, and family and child well-being. The opportunity? The Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA), where counties can make sure the Census Bureau has an accurate list of housing addresses. If your county has been impacted by natural disasters, or if there’s been major growth in housing developments, participating in LUCA is especially important. LUCA is the one direct opportunity counties have to improve the accuracy of the Census count, by making sure the housing lists are accurate and up to date.

Join the webinar to learn more about how Census counts impact county funding for a decade. Participants will learn about where Kentucky is most likely to have undercounts and ways communities have increased their counts by improving address accuracy. Participants will also learn about specific steps counties can start taking now to prepare for LUCA in 2027.
