2025 Jail Liability Training (May 1-2)

This comprehensive two-day training is designed to equip Kentucky jailers and deputy jailers with the knowledge and skills needed to reduce liability and improve safety within jail environments. Led by instructor Jeff Carter, the program will address key legal, medical and operational risks faced by correctional staff. Participants will explore best practices in managing intoxication and withdrawal, responding to inmate aggression, conducting security checks, and navigating legal standards related to mental health, medical care and PREA compliance. The training also includes updates on laws affecting corrections staff and emphasizes strategies for minimizing liability through proactive safety and awareness practices. Open to all Kentucky Jailers and Deputy Jailers.
Day 1: Foundational Risk and Medical Awareness

Medical – Best Practices for Jail Staff - 11 a.m. - noon
Current Trends in Dealing with Inmate Aggression Successfully (Part I) - Noon - 1 p.m.

Day 2: Legal Standards, Mental Health & Safety Practices
