With less than a month to go before the application deadline, this week Commissioner for Rural and Municipal Aid Bobbi Jo Lewis provided legislators with an update of the state’s new County Priority Projects Program (CPPP).
Lewis told members of the Interim Joint Committee on Transportation and the Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation that only 30 counties and cities have applied for CPPP funding so far. The deadline to submit applications is Oct. 15. Click here for more information about CPPP and how to apply.
During the 2024 legislative session, the General Assembly established the CPPP through House Bill 265, allocating $20 million for FY2025 and FY2026.
“House Bill 265 requires us to have these roads evaluated,” Lewis said. “We have to have time to get the requests out to the [transportation cabinet highway districts] to go look at them and prepare their paperwork.”
Lewis said her office is required to provide the CPPP requests to legislators by Nov. 1. Final funding decisions will be made during the 2025 legislative session.
The General Assembly also established the County and City Bridge Improvement Program, allocating $25 million in FY2025 and FY2026. The application process for this program is ongoing.
Lewis testified that the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid has already received 14 applications, totaling $4.9 million in requests. For more information on the program and how to apply, click here.
