Kentucky House Majority Floor Leader Steven Rudy has been presented a 2021 County Advocate award by the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo).

In his role as the Floor Leader, he worked in the 2021 legislative session to advance bills that increased funding to counties and made the work of county government more meaningful and effective. He helped usher bills through the process that supported first responders and modernized elections.

“I’m honored to receive KACo’s County Advocate Award and appreciate the working relationship I have with both the association and our local county officials," Rudy said. "Our entire region benefits when state and local governments work together, and we saw that this session with the passage of more than $500 million in funding for water infrastructure and broadband expansion. I look forward to continuing our efforts as we remain focused on ensuring we invest every resource responsibly.”

Shellie Hampton, KACo Director of Government Affairs, was joined by Ballard County Judge/Executive Todd Cooper and Gracie Lagadinos, KACo Associate Director of Government Affairs in Ballard County, to present the award to Leader Rudy on behalf of county officials across Kentucky.

“Leader Rudy has been an advocate for counties since he first began his legislative career," Hampton said. "He recognizes that not all counties share the same resources, and he works with all stakeholders involved to level the playing field. His leadership role is a testament to the faith his fellow House members have in him, and we are grateful for his continued friendship and open door.”

The County Advocate award is being presented to legislators who supported counties throughout the 2021 session by sponsoring or shepherding legislation that helps counties continue to provide services without unfunded mandates or limiting home rule.
