By
If you would like to vote in the November elections, the deadline to register is rapidly approaching.

If you have not yet registered to vote and plan to participate in the November General Election, the deadline is rapidly approaching.

October 9 is the final day for new voters to register, as well as for those who have moved to enter their new address.

"Registering to vote is the first and most important step in making sure you can have your say at the ballot box on Election Day," said Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, the state’s chief election official. “I encourage all Kentuckians who are eligible to get registered and then vote on Nov. 6."

To be eligible to vote, Kentuckians must:

--Be a U.S. citizen.

--Be a Kentucky resident for at least 28 days before Election Day.

--Be at least 18 years old on or before the General Election.

--Not be a convicted felon; or if convicted of a felony offense, must have obtained a restoration of civil rights.

--Not have been adjudged “mentally incompetent.”

--Not claim the right to vote anywhere outside Kentucky.

Young people who are 17 years old but will be 18 years old on or before the Nov. 6, 2018 General Election are eligible to register as well.

Current voters may check their registration status and their polling location with the Voter Information Center found at www.GoVoteKY.com.  For questions, contact your county clerk or the State Board of Elections at (502) 573-7100.
