PSC to hold public information meetings regarding nuclear generation

from the Kentucky Public Service Commission
The order and other records in the case are available on the PSC website, psc.ky.gov. The case number 2025-00186.

The Kentucky Public Service Commission will be holding public meetings throughout the state to listen to local officials, business owners and residents about their ideas and concerns regarding nuclear generation.

Six public meetings are scheduled at colleges across Kentucky beginning Feb. 26 in Morehead and concluding April 8 in Bowling Green.

The commission will be presenting information about the state of nuclear generation technology and its status around the country and in Kentucky at these meetings, which also include stops in Louisville, Lexington, Paducah and northern Kentucky,

The meetings and the case (2025-00186) are part of the PSC’s compliance with 2024 Senate Joint Resolution 140, in which the Kentucky General Assembly directed the commission to make all necessary preparations prior to applications for location and construction of nuclear energy facilities in Kentucky.

“As our nation struggles to keep up with rising demand for electricity, nuclear energy is increasingly seen as a reliable, dispatchable, clean energy source, and as such, is experiencing a resurgence in the United States,” Kentucky PSC Chair Angie Hatton said. “Recent technological advances have made nuclear energy potentially more affordable and attainable. However, the technology is still very expensive, and we want to make sure we examine all angles of this potential power source, including its impact on ratepayers, electric grid reliability, our environment, economic development and our workforce in Kentucky as we explore our options.”

The order and other records in the case are available on the PSC website, psc.ky.gov. The case number 2025-00186.
