Maximizing opioid settlement fund impact

KACo Leadership Institute training scheduled for March 25

County officials and stakeholders will have the opportunity to gain critical insights into opioid abatement strategies at the upcoming KACo Leadership Institute: Opioid Solutions event on Tuesday, March 25.

This full-day training at KACo headquarters in Frankfort will equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to effectively allocate opioid settlement funds and implement impactful solutions in their communities. The training will feature expert speakers, data-driven insights and real-world case studies on how counties can maximize their opioid response efforts. Sessions will cover key topics, including:

  • Best practices for opioid settlement spending
  • Measuring impact through data dashboards
  • Implementing recovery-ready community initiatives
  • Enhancing existing programs with additional resources

Featured session

Addiction recovery advocate Elizabeth Jade Harney will deliver a powerful presentation titled “Eclipsing Stigmas.”

As a board-certified critical care paramedic, Harney will offer a deeply personal and professional perspective on the stigma surrounding substance use disorder (SUD). Her presentation will challenge attendees to rethink their approach to addiction by emphasizing empathy, education, and actionable change in healthcare and public service.

Topics will include:

  • National addiction statistics and trends
  • The role of first responders in reducing stigma
  • The importance of addiction-focused training

State updates and reporting requirements

The Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission will provide critical updates du on new reporting requirements for local governments receiving opioid settlement funds. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of upcoming changes, ensuring compliance and transparency in their opioid abatement strategies.
