As part of KACo’s Opioid Solutions webinar series, the Kentucky Statewide Opioid Stewardship program (KY SOS), in partnership with the Kentucky Hospital Association, explored the impact of Peer Support Specialists in emergency care settings. The discussion centered on the impact of Peer Support Specialists in emergency care settings, with a spotlight on the KY SOS Emergency Department (ED) Bridge Program—a key initiative designed to connect patients with treatment resources, harm reduction tools, and sustained recovery support.
Speakers Melissa Koncar, Robyn Helton, and Chris Garrison shared insights into the critical role of peer support in EDs and discussed strategies for expanding access to treatment, reducing stigma, and strengthening recovery pathways in Kentucky communities.
