The filing deadline for candidates who must run in a primary was Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, while independents have until April 1, 2024 to file.
House Races
All 100 House districts are up for election this year.
Thirteen current representatives will not be running for re-election – eight republicans and five democrats. Russell Webber (R – HD26) already resigned to take a position with the newly-elected Treasurer (Mark Metcalf) and Brandon Reed (R – HD24) will be resigning Jan. 15, 2024 to join the newly-elected Commissioner of Agriculture’s (Jonathan Shell) administration. Keturah Herron (D – HD42) and Steve Rawlings (R – HD66) will both be leaving their House seats and are running for Senate districts. Other incumbents not seeking reelection:

Forty candidates are running unopposed, with no primary or general opponent, 34 of which are republicans and six are democrats.
Twenty-one incumbent candidates have a primary race, 16 republicans and five democrats.
Currently republicans hold a supermajority of 79-20 (Webber’s seat is vacant).
Senate Races
Odd-numbered districts are up for election this year.
Four current senators will not be running for re-election - three republicans and one democrat:
- Whitney Westerfield (R - SD3)
- John Schickel (R - SD11)
- Damon Thayer (R - SD17)
- Denise Harper Angel (D - SD35)
Five incumbent candidates have a primary race, four republicans and one democrat.
Eight candidates are running unopposed, with no primary or general opponent, five of which are republicans and three are democrats.
Currently republicans hold a supermajority of 31-7.
