Harlan County judge/executive rises to KACo presidency

Statewide organization represents county elected officials

Harlan County Judge/Executive Dan Mosley is the new president of the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo), having taken the oath of office Thursday during KACo’s 50th annual conference in Louisville.

"Serving as KACo President is an incredible honor. To represent judge/executives, magistrates and commissioners, property valuation administrators, county clerks, jailers, sheriffs, county attorneys, commonwealth’s attorneys, circuit clerks and coroners is a responsibility that I will not take for granted," Mosley said.

Joining Mosley on the 2024-25 KACo Executive Committee are President-elect/Union County Judge/Executive Adam O’Nan, First Vice President/Oldham County Magistrate Michael Logsdon, Second Vice President/Grant County Clerk Tabatha Clemons and Immediate Past President/Scott County Magistrate David Livingston.

"Dan Mosley exemplifies the very best of county leadership — his dedication, vision and steadfast commitment to Harlan County and all of Kentucky’s counties is inspiring," said KACo Executive Director Jim Henderson. "Judge Mosley works tirelessly to tell the county story, advocating for funding and services that help our communities thrive. KACo is fortunate to have his leadership guiding us forward."

Elected to public office in 2014, Mosley is a lifelong native of Harlan County serving in his third term as judge/executive.

He has a long track record of leadership positions. In addition to serving on the KACo Board of Directors, Mosley is a member of the KACo Insurance Agency Board and Vice Chair of the KACo Workers Compensation Board. He is a past president of the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association, former chair of the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts and past president of the Kentucky Coal & Mineral County Coalition.

Mosley is also active with the National Association of Counties (NACo). As a member of NACo's Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities (BRECC) initiative and the NACo Opioid Solutions Leadership Network, Mosley has worked with regional and national leaders on issues relevant to the Bluegrass State.

"KACo’s motto, ‘Stronger Counties, Stronger Kentucky’ rings loud and true," Mosley said. "The way we ensure stronger counties, stronger Kentucky is by working together in the most collaborative ways possible."

Founded in 1974, KACo is dedicated to serving as the unified voice of county governments in the commonwealth. KACo represents more than 1,500 elected county officials in all 120 Kentucky counties.
