DLG releases county populations for salary schedule requirements

From the Department for Local Government
All local elected officials will be notified by the second Friday in February as to their respective salary provisions.

The Department for Local Government is required each year preceding the election of county officials to certify for each county the population group applicable to each county by requesting the most recent estimates from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census.

The new population estimates will not go into effect until the new term of office (Jan. 1, 2027) and shall remain throughout the new term.

The memo DLG uses to share this information was delayed prior to the Nov. 1 deadline due to DLG not receiving the population certification from the Census Bureau during the recent federal government shutdown. DLG recently received the population estimates from the Census Bureau.

The salaries of the county judge/executive, county clerk, sheriff and jailer (who operates a full-service jail) are entitled pursuant to the increase in the annually published Consumer Price Index and salary schedule.

All local elected officials will be notified by the second Friday in February as to their respective salary provisions.
