In January, Attorney General Russell Coleman announced a settlement with the Kroger Company that will bring $110 million to the Commonwealth in support of efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
As with previous opioid settlements, half of the funds from the Kroger settlement will be distributed to the state and administered by the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission. The other half will be distributed among counties and eligible municipalities through a predetermined formula.
On April 10, the Attorney General’s office sent an email to county opioid settlement contacts regarding the distribution of those funds. The email from the Attorney General states:
In addition to other notices you may receive concerning prior settlements, your Office will receive an email Monday, April 14 regarding the Commonwealth’s settlement with Kroger. The email will be from DirectingAdministrator@NationalOpioidOfficialSettlement.com. It will provide the specific amount you will receive and detailed instructions how to receive those funds. Payments will continue annually through March of 2038. Given the importance of these resources, please promptly address the forthcoming communication.
You can view a copy of the Attorney General’s email here, including information about how to contact the office with questions.
The notification from BrownGreer will trigger the 10-day review period for lodging any disputes concerning the calculations, which will end on April 24. Assuming all payment information has been correctly submitted or updated with BrownGreer, counties should expect funds for payment years 1 and 2 to begin arriving on April 30.
