County Clerks organize elections, maintain records
County clerks are responsible for Election Day procedures, but those days take hard work, dedication and nearly year-round planning for everything to go as smoothly as possible. Election Day planning includes:
- Registering voters
- Maintaining the voter database
- Providing election information to the public
- Scheduling and training election officers
- Securing equipment and locations
- Ordering ballots
- Tallying the votes
- Certifying and reporting the votes
- Handling any issues that come up.
If those responsibilities weren’t enough, county clerks also provide services related to recordkeeping and auto renewals.
Several county clerk offices also accept passport applications and sell hunting and fishing licenses, however, offices aren’t mandated to do so.
